A TEENAGER has died after the car he was travelling in was struck by another vehicle on the M27 in the New Forest.
The 18-year-old, who has not been named, was a passenger in a Nissan Micra which was stationary in queuing traffic when it was hit by a black Rover 218.
The Nissan then struck a red VW Golf as a result of the accident that happened at 10.10am yesterday on the westbound carriageway of the motorway at junction one Cadnam.
The front seat passenger of the Nissan, an 18-year-old man from Oxfordshire, suffered head injuries. He was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he died of his injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, an 18-year-old man also from Oxfordshire, and the driver of the Rover, a 22-year-old man from the Basingstoke area, both sustained minor injuries and were also taken to Southampton General. The driver of the Golf was uninjured.
The motorway was closed for over four hours leading to long traffic tailbacks while police examined the scene.
Police are keen to hear from any witnesses and would particularly like to contact the driver of a dark-coloured VW Golf that was driving in front of the Rover and is believed to have swerved to avoid the stationary traffic.
