SIMON Plummer scored the biggest win of his athletics career when he became Scottish 5000m champion.
The Team Solent/Southampton Running Club athlete returned a personal best of 14 minutes and 38 seconds to take a comfortable victory.
SRC's Tony Fern said: "This is a tremendous boost to Simon and his coach Pat Griffey, who has always had complete faith in his ability and makes the trip from Salisbury every week to Southampton Sports centre so Simon can train with the group.
"Pat, who is a deputy head school teacher, was a fine runner and is now proving himself as a coach."
Plummer has already run for England as a junior, but he has Scottish qualification through his parents and the Scottish team manager, John Roberson, is keen to have him in his team.
