YOUNGSTERS who have spent the summer keeping fit and staying out of trouble with the Testway 7s sports programme will be winning prizes at an action-packed finals day tomorrow.
The fun kicks off at 10am at Andover Rugby Club where scores of children will show off their sporting prowess and fight it out in this year's football tournament for girls and rugby tournament for boys.
After the battle is over the winning teams will be awarded trophies and prizes.
A flight in a light aircraft at Popham's Young Eagles Day on 18 September will be given to individual players who have impressed coaches with their positive attitude, effort and determination.
Other activities for youngsters to enjoy at the event include gladiator games, a bunjee run, speed cage, bouncy castle and face painting.
Now in its fourth year, Testway 7s has helped to reduce school holiday crime and nuisance rates in targeted neighbourhoods by almost 70 per cent since the initiative began.
Showing a keen enthusiasm for his rugby training, ten-year- old Oliver Hollis of River Way, said: "It's brilliant! The coaches are good; if you're messing around they sort it out without upset.
"They explain things clearly and I've learned a lot. "I've also got some new friends as team mates."
Oliver's mother Mrs Hollis added: "Oliver has always wanted to play rugby and Testway 7s has given him an introduction to the sport and something positive to focus on during his summer holidays.
"He seems more independent and it has helped him mix with other young people and pursue an activity of his own interest.
"He was thrilled with his recent top player award, it was a real self- esteem booster."
Braving the sometimes wet weather, more than 175 youngsters have joined in this summer's training and earned their place in the finals through hard work and showing the right attitude.
