A VIOLIN maker to some of the world's greatest musicians will give a presentation on his skills at a special event being held in Winchester next week.
Craftsman Malcolm Coombes has received the highest awards for his instruments and has made violins for many top classical stars including Yehudi Menuhin.
Next Thursday, September 9, the master woodworker will be paying a visit to Colden Common Community Centre to give a talk about his skills, arranged by the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).
As well as some musical examples of his work later in the evening, Mr Coombes will be staging a hands-on presentation on the art of violin-making as he shows off the secrets of his trade.
A spokesman for the CPRE, said: "This promises to be a presentation of the highest quality by a former design draughtsman who not only found measureless enjoyment in his second career, but also considerable success.
"I can guarantee an absorbing evening starting with some carefully selected materials and ending with some fine music."
The presentation starts at 7pm. For tickets and more information about the event call John Budden on 023 9234 3731.
