A TOUR of a former barracks, pictured, in Winchester by the man who did most to save it is one of the highlights of the forthcoming Heritage Open Days
Huw Thomas, a local architect, started the campaign to prevent the demolition of most of Peninsula Barracks in the mid-1990s. His determination eventually led to the buildings being converted into homes.
On Friday, September 10 Mr Thomas will lead a tour of the barracks. Meet outside the Adjutant General's Corps Museum at 1.55pm. Pre-booking is required - telephone 01962 846251.
Numerous other places in and around Winchester, several that are usually out of bounds, will also be opening their doors to the public between September 10-13.
Taking part for the first time is the Heritage Centre and Worthy Park house.
