TWO fed-up Park Gate residents have won their battle to have a traffic survey redone on their road.
Tim Saunders and Caroline Dean are strong opponents of continued development in the village.
One of their major concerns is an increase in the already heavy and fast-moving traffic outside their home in Botley Road.
They believe a traffic survey carried out there last year, which found 85 per cent of cars adhered to the speed limit, was flawed because roadworks at the time slowed the cars down.
The couple have asked high-
ways chiefs to carry out another survey.
In a joint letter to Peter Bayless, Hampshire County Council's chief engineer for traffic management and road safety, they said: "There were heavy roadworks on Botley Road with traffic lights that would have acted as a thoroughly good traffic calming measure.
"Therefore, this survey does not give a true reflection.
"Cars are careering past our sitting room window."
Hampshire County Council spokeswoman Sarette Martin said: "When the speed survey was done on July 22, 2003, we have no record of roadworks in progress at that time. But there's no objection to us doing it again."
No date has yet been decided for the new survey to commence, but highways chiefs promise it will be done "shortly".
Park Gate residents now have several hundred signatures on a petition to cut down on numerous planning applications for flats in the village.
