A PLAYGROUP that was set up from scratch by a group of Hampshire mums last year is the latest community group to receive a share of our Make it Happen cash.

The Mini Me's playgroup in Bursledon charges just £1 for every child who spends an afternoon at the group, and was desperate for some extra cash.

Thanks to the Daily Echo Combined Insurance Make it Happen Awards the group is £50 better off and can now afford to buy some vital safety equipment.

We launched the awards in June and hundreds of groups and individuals told us why they deserved a share of the £10,000 on offer.

After teaming up with the specialist accident and health insurer, Combined Insurance, we are now able to award pots of money to people across Hampshire.

This latest award is an example of how a small amount of money can make a big difference.

The group meets each Tuesday afternoon at Bursledon Community Centre and staff intend to spend the award on some safety mats.

Debbie Reed, who set up the group seven months ago, said: "Without this playgroup there would be nowhere for myself and other mums to go.

"We have no funds whatsoever and rely on donations. Some people give us old toys when their children have grown out of them.

"The group is important for both the parents and the children, I think if we didn't have it we'd go mad."

It's not too late to take part in the scheme. Simply fill in the form printed on page 6 of today's Daily Echo.
