DIVING ace Pete Waterfield is to receive an unforgettable homecoming tomorrow with an open-top bus parade and civic reception.
For the last week council bosses and diving staff at The Quays Swimming and Diving Complex have been finalising the exact details of his itinerary.
They want to pull out all the stops to mark the achievement of the 23-year-old who won Great Britain's first medal of the Olympics - a silver in the synchronised ten-metre diving event with Leon Taylor.
The idea for a full-scale civic reception was first mooted a week ago, as reported in The Daily Echo.
Pete of Windermere Avenue, Millbrook, and his coach Lindsey Fraser, who is head coach at The Quays diving complex, will be guests of honour at a mayoral reception at the Civic Offices at 12.30pm.
Accompanied by family and friends the pair will then board an open-top bus to The Quays Swimming and Diving Complex where a party will be held from 1.30pm.
People hoping to meet the city's Olympic hero will be able to see Pete's medal and speak to him before the bus sets off from the Civic Offices.
