BAT Sports may have surrendered their Southern Electric Premier League crown - but they intend to go full tilt and win the inaugural Super 4's, which begin next Saturday.
Under the new captaincy of Damian Shirazi, BAT fired a warning to Havant - their semi-final opponents - with a crushing nine-wicket win over South Wilts, the newly crowned champions, at Lower Bemerton.
And Shirazi has promised a new look to the BAT side that will be challenging in the new end-of-season 50-over play-offs.
"We plan to leave one or two of the old guard out and freshen things up by introducing a few new faces," he said.
Calmore Sports all-rounder James Hibberd is strongly tipped as one of three or four BAT newcomers, although he won't be joining the Totton club until the start of next season.
More immediately, one player who will be missing from Saturday's Havant Park semi-final is hard-hitting opener Neal Parlane, who flew home to his native New Zealand yesterday and won't be returning to Southern Gardens next season.
Parlane said his farewells with a typically brutal 40, which kick-started BAT's run chase against South Wilts.
"It seemed he got his 40 in about five minutes," quipped South Wilts captain Rob Wade.
Parlane got his 40 out of a 44-run start, which set BAT on their way to an eventually comfortable passage towards South Wilts' modest 167-9.
Shirazi, who finished with 48 not out, and Dave Banks, with an attacking 76, shared an unbroken 126-run stand which swept BAT home with 18 overs to spare.
"It was very much an end-of-season performance from us. A bit of an anti-climax after winning the Premier League championship the previous weekend," Wade added.
Only Wade (44) and Alan Kruger (30) - both victims of seamer Dave Banks (2-33) - really got to grips with things as South Wilts lurched to 167-9 on a wet surface. Ben Tait (2-28) and Chris Thomason (1-19) caused the early problems for the new champions, while veteran Terry Rawlins (3-38) took out the lower-order.
At least JasonLaney had something to smile out.
His 12 ensured that he stayed just ahead of Bashley's Shawn Gillies and won the Premier League batting award.
