Havant v BAT Sports and South Wilts v the Hampshire Academy. That's the line up for next Saturday's Southern Electric Premier League play-off semi-finals.

The top four Premier Division 1 clubs will go head-to-head in separate 50-overs per side contests at Havant Park and Lower Bemerton (12 noon) for the right to play in the inaugural Grand Final at Hursley Park on September 11.

The eventual winners will receive the Premiership Shield and a cash prize to be put towards ground improvements.

The top three placings had all been settled before Saturday's final round of SEPL fixtures, but the Academy had to overcome a battling Old Tauntonians & Romsey before securing fourth place.

And what a fight OT's put up before conceding an 11-run defeat that finally spelled relegation back into Division 2 next year.

Some 13 points adrift of fellow strugglers Liphook & Ripsley at the start of play, they had the Young Hawks on the ropes at 90-5 (Mitchell Stokes 31), with Scott Shirley (3-53) and Mukesh Morjaria (1-49) inflicting the damage.

OT's threw themselves around in the field and picked up several excellent low catches before Chris Benham's well constructed 86 steered the Academy out of trouble.

The promising Richard Morris (23), David Griffiths (31) and Matt Metcalfe (28 not out) provided timely support as the Hawks eased to what appeared an unassailable 244-9.

When England Under-19 all-rounder Griffiths (4-25) dropped OT's to 33-3 and later 76-4, the contest appeared all over bar the proverbial shouting.

But led by Jodey Brown (75) and Max Smith, OT's hit back and had the Academy fielders casting an anxious eye or two at the scoreboard before Morris (2-36) bowled Brown at 216-5.

Even though his side needed to score at ten runs at over, Smith refused to give up and was eventually run out for a gallant 86 with OT's 231-8.

With Liphook & Ripsley inflicting Andover's ninth successive defeat - they won a truncated 29-over contest by four wickets- OT's finished 27 points adrift at the bottom.

But that margin didn't do justice to the fighting performances they produced in the closing weeks of the season.

South African Dominic Ridley, whose unbeaten 149 steered Liphook to victory at Bournemouth the previous week, hit a crucial 66 in Liphook's five-wicket win.

Jerry Hayward (52) top scored in Andover's 133-9 - Middlesex prospect Chris Wright taking 3-11.
