FIVE-STAR Gosport Borough and Andover are oozing six appeal at the top of the Sydenhams Wessex League table.

Both clubs maintained their impressive 100 per cent starts to the season by each recording a fifth successive victory and the two sides are already six points clear of the chasing pack.

Gosport remain top of the pile on goal difference following their 2-0 home win over Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

"It wasn't the best of games," summed up Boro boss Mick Marsh. "I don't know why but I felt that we were a bit flat today.

"We did just enough to stay in front."

Graham Lindsay gave Gosport a 44th minute lead when he converted John Cripps' cross from close range before netting his and Boro's second in the final minute shooting home via the upright.

Ten-man Wimborne Town surrendered their unbeaten record at The Cuthbury as they were trounced 4-1 by Andover.

Danny Sullivan gave the Lions a 20th minute lead before the Magpies' Paul Roast was red carded for a professional foul on Phil Andrews.

However, the home side rallied to level through Gareth Barnes right on the stroke of half time.

Andover's numerical advantage took its toll in the second half as two Vince Rusher strikes and a 35-yard curling effort from Andrews gave Andover a convincing win.

Fourth-placed AFC Newbury are the only other side with a perfect record.

The Berkshire club beat Christchurch 1-0 at Faraday Road to chalk up a third straight win and a solitary goal by Steve Poulton earned Alton Town their first victory against Cowes, who had Phil McDonald sent off late on.

VTFC came from behind to grab an impressive 2-1 victory at Bournemouth Poppies courtesy of a John McFarlane double.

Lamin Dibba gave Poppies an early lead before McFarlane levelled on 35 minutes following a neat one-two with ex-Saint Kevin Gibbens. VT's winner arrived midway through the second half when substitute Gary Biddle crossed for McFarlane to volley home at the far post.

"Our lads have played really well and that was an excellentvictory, we just got stronger as the game wore on," purred VT manager Dave Diaper.

Hamble ASSC opened their points account after they twice came from behind to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with BAT.

Dave Roberts and substitute Dean Cole put the Tobaccomen ahead on each occasion only for the home side to reply through Steve Whitcher and Lloyd Mitchell.

"Hamble have taken 12 points off us in the past two seasons so I've got to be pleased with our result today" smiled BAT boss Andy Leader.
