THEY haven't won a single game in their first season.
But members of one of Hampshire's newest cricket teams have been bowled over by the demand to join their ranks.
The Bird in the Hand Activity Centre's cricket club in Winchester are now vowing not to get stumped in their search for a sponsor so that their quest for that elusive win can continue.
"It would be nice to get a win given a bit more practice," said Mick Turner, services support worker at the centre based in Chesil Street.
"We are capable of beating some of the teams and everyone knows what to expect now. Everyone is encouraged enough to want to play on and I have got at least 12 names that want to be added to the list."
The 18-strong team is made up of members, staff and volunteers from the charity, which helps people recovering from long-term mental health problems.
Mick added: "Playing as a team, we are probably 100 per cent better. Everyone involved improved as the season went on. Most of them haven't played for many years but it's all coming back to them now."
The team received almost £3,000 from a lottery grants scheme to help with start-up costs earlier in the year.
They now need a new sponsor to come forward to help them buy new kit and to foot the bill for transport, coaching and pitch hire costs.
The team, which regularly plays at North Walls recreation ground in the Winchester and District Evening League, receives regular coaching and takes part in local competitions.
