TWO sisters from Fareham are preparing to pull on their walking boots to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.
Carol Palmer, 43, and Louise Spencer, 29, are taking part in the Trek for Life along the Great Wall of China in aid of Breast Cancer Research this October.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, their mum Christine Spencer is now back in good health and the sisters want to do something to help others who find themselves in the same situation.
"We are doing this because our mum has had breast cancer," said Carol, of Andrew Place in Hill Head, near Stubbington.
"Four years down the line she is doing really well and we are hoping she will get the all-clear next year.
"She has had such brilliant support - all the doctors and nurses were great. It makes you want to give something back."
In order to take part in the trek the sisters have to raise £6,000. To help with their challenge The Red Lion pub in Stubbington is holding a variety of events over the bank holiday weekend, including a Decades Disco, a barbecue and a Killer Pool knock-out competition.
Throughout the weekend one of Carol's bras will be hung up in the bar for people to put their donations in.
"I got the largest bra I could find - which wasn't as big as I would have liked!" she said.
More details on events taking place at The Red Lion over the weekend are available from Zara on 01329 662003.
