SAINTS star Kevin Phillips joined the battle against childhood obesity by launching a ten-day fitness event in Southampton.
The project at the Mall Marlands shopping centre was supported by Sport England and aims to encourage young people to be more active.
The Southampton striker opened the centre's Sport Arena, where youngsters can try sports including football, basketball and netball.
Other attractions will include demonstrations from local squash, football, kick-boxing, cheerleading and martial arts teams.
Sean Holt, regional director for Sport England South East, said: "Our aim is to encourage people of all ages to start, stay and succeed in sport.
"Sport can not only improve your health but, particularly among young people, it can improve leadership skills, social interaction and reduce crime figures."
