Sir.-I wish to bring to readers' attention The Cavaliers, a non-profit-making drum corps (American high school-style marching band).
We are a group of youngsters who get together on a weekly basis to learn music and drill to go with this music.
Throughout the winter we put together a show with brass players, percussion and dancers in order to compete within Drum Corps United Kingdom and British Youth Band Association during the summer months.
A few years ago this was a very popular activity. However, over the past few years, membership has dwindled.
We are having a succesful year in the BYBA and are currently recruiting for our 2005 season, looking to get as many new members as we can.
Someone could come along not knowing any instruments or how to dance and, within our Cadet Corps, get to try all the instruments to decide which they are best suited to. Our staff will then teach each individual how to play/dance and march.
Having been a member of the Corps since 1990, and knowing how much fun I've had during this time, I'm hoping to introduce the activity to a whole new generation.
