cricket: Silchester CC secured a crucial 18-run win at home to Hook and Newnham Basics III on Saturday, August 14, in a match sponsored by Oak House Developments Services.

Silchester batted first and were all out in the 41st over for 159, with Scott Dyer, 55 not out, making his first appearance for the side.

In a nail-biting finish the visitors were bowled out for 141 in the 34th over with Heath and Brewer taking three wickets each.

With two games of the season left, this hard-fought victory should ensure Regional 2 north-east cricket for Silchester next season.
