BEMERTON Heath Harlequins boss Steve Slade had three good reasons to be cheerful on Saturday evening.
High-riding Harlequins' impressive 3-0 victory at Lymington & New Milton extended their 100 per cent record to three games and Slade's 16-year-old son, Jack, clambered off the subs' bench to score his first goal for the club.
"Jack did come off the bench a couple of times last season but today was his first goal for the club and naturally I'm very proud," smiled Slade senior.
"We did play really well and we were solid throughout the game, although I thought that 3-0 flattered us a bit. We have a 100 per cent record and you can't argue with that," he added.
Jamie Boswell's slide-rule through-ball released Stu Findlay to notch Bemerton's opener after 25 minutes before Findlay returned the complement on 50 minutes by flicking on Adam Nash's free kick for Boswell to bag a second.
Ian Chalk and Findlay then combined well down the right for Slade to complete the scoring after 70 minutes.
Jack Slade wasn't the only manager's son to get on the score sheet at the weekend - Scott Arnold also found the net as Paul Arnold's Wimborne opened their win account with a 7-0 humbling of Hamble ASSC.
However, young Arnold was upstaged by Magpies' hat-trick heroes Stuart Cooper - who blasted a first-half treble - and Gareth Barnes, whose own trio included two penalties.
Ex-Cuthbury supremo and now Hamworthy manager Alex Pike also saw his club open their account in emphatic fashion as they dumped Downton 6-0 on their own patch.
"It's nice to finally get off the mark after playing well against both Gosport and Thatcham in the past week and only having a point to show for it," said Pike.
Darren Orchard burst through the middle to open the scoring on 12 minutes and quickly added another when Ryan Lucas unselfishly set him up for a simple left-footed finish.
Tommy McCormick's 28th minute penalty made it 3-0 after Orchard had been felled, with a second-half header by Karim Bannasouda and a Jamie Holland brace rounding off United's sextet.
A bad day for Downton was compounded when Andrew McGlashan was taken to hospital by ambulance with a suspected broken leg.
After back-to-back defeats at the hands of Thatcham and Andover, Fareham scored their first goals and points of the campaign with a 2-0 away day success at Christchurch.
"Christchurch are a good footballing side but we were solid at the back today and it's nice to get off the mark," said Fareham manager Louis Savage.
Paul Morby grabbed Fareham's first after seven minutes with a cracking volley from just outside the penalty area, with Floyd Hamoudu netting their second 20 minutes from time.
Moneyfields and Brockenhurst battled out a goalless draw at Copnor, the Moneymen's second 0-0 draw at home in the past eight days.
