A MAN was killed when he was hit by a lorry on the A3090 between Ower and Romsey.
The pedestrian, who has not yet been named, was in collision with the Iveco truck travelling towards Romsey near to the Garden Lane turning.
Police arrested the truck driver following the accident on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The section of dual carriageway between Ower services and Romsey was closed for five hours while police accident investigation teams examined the scene of the tragedy, which happened about 2.50pm yesterday.
Sgt Andy Timms from Hampshire police's accident investigation team said police wanted to talk to anyone who saw the man walking along the road or on the grass verge before the accident.
He said: "It is imperative that people come forward if they have any information, no matter how slight."
The man is described as white. He was carrying an Army style kitbag and had a moustache.
