Katie's in the swing at Corhampton
CORHAMPTON Junior recruit Katie Thompson, who will be 13 at the beginning of September, has had a superb month.
At the English Ladies Championships she returned a card to par and at the South East Girls a card to one over.
Having qualified for the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship earlier in the year, Katie went to the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia, at the end of July. She played three excellent rounds of 74, 75 and 72 against a standard scratch of 72 and came fourth in her age group.
This fine effort has reduced her handicap to 3.8.
Last week, Katie played in the English Girls' Championship at Harrogate, and having qualified in her age group, she won her first round match 9&8.
She followed this with a 7&5 win in the quarter-final, and was extremely disappointed to lose on the 18th in the semi-final.
This weekend, Katie will be playing for the county juniors in the Junior Jamboree and then goes to Royal Porthcawl to play in the finals of the Faldo Junior Series.
Having played for the county team in the inter-county qualifying matches, she has been selected to play in the finals to be held at High Post Golf Club from August 31st to September 2nd.
