FAREHAM'S Vanessa Hobbs produced some steady performances in her first Olympics.
The 17-year-old member of the Southampton-based Dynamo gymnastics club was competing in the women's artistic events.
Hobbs was 42nd out of 85 in the women's balance beam event with 8,937 points.
The 5ft 3in girl was 44th out of 83 in the women's floor exercise with 9,087 points.
But the former Cams Hill pupil trailed in 73rd out of 85 in the asymmetric bars with 8,437 points.
Hobbs' efforts helped GB to finish 11th overall in the team event.
The GB men's hockey squad, including Colden Common-based striker Rob Moore, began their Olympic campaign with a 3-1 win over Egypt last night.
The squad went into the competition as outsiders for a medal, with most pundits suggesting they will do well to finish seventh.
