A THAI masseuse and her landlord have been fined hundreds of pounds for running a Hampshire brothel.
Thumma Peacock admitted running the premises in Millbrook Road, Southampton, after police carried out a raid on the massage parlour and found
condoms, tissues and towels.
Officers belonging to Hampshire police's vice squad also found a list of clients, figures relating to how much they would each pay, a copy of McCoy's Guide to Massage Parlours and an appointment booking system, Southampton magistrates were told.
After the case co-accused Richard Charney was smuggled out through a side door of the court while Peacock was left to walk out the main entrance.
Tim Dracass, prosecuting at Southampton Magistrates' Court told how after the police raid in May 2003, clients continued to receive sexual services there.
He described how Peacock, who had installed CCTV cameras throughout the premises, charged a £30 or £40 entrance fee before payment was requested for extra sexual services.
"There was a fairly healthy turnover in terms of the figures with a turnover of £700 to £1,000 a week," he said.
Inside the premises there were beds but no massage tables.
Peacock, 42, of Christchurch, Dorset, pleaded guilty to one charge of managing and assisting in the management of a heterosexual brothel and one charge of permitting the use of the premises to be used as a brothel between February 4 and August 28 last year.
District judge Gillian Babington-Browne fined Peacock £500 and ordered her to pay £382.50 costs.
Her co-accused, Richard Charney, 55, formerly of Reubens Close, New Milton, was found guilty after a three-day trial of managing a heterosexual brothel and permitting his premises to be used as a brothel.
The 55-year-old accountant, who now lives in London, was the landlord of the building. He was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £2,698.50 costs.
Barry Keel, defending, said married Peacock, who was in charge of four full-time members of staff from her native Thailand, was of previous good character with no convictions.
He described how she had qualified as a masseuse in Thailand before moving to England in 1987.
"She did not exert much control over her employees," said Mr Keel. "She accepts she was managing a brothel as alleged by the Crown."
He told how she had since set up another massage parlour outside Hampshire.
