SECOND place is good enough to give young Foad the junior title
Second place was enough to secure the Junior Sculling Championship title for Itchen Imperial's James Foad at Bournemouth last weekend.
He finished comfortably in second place to race leader Matt Allsopp of Ryde.
Foad only had to keep his eyes firmly fixed on his nearest championship contender, Westover's Garry Cure way behind in fourth place, to be sure of the title.
Nick Pike of Ryde made no mistakes in his final, securing the Senior Sculls Championship with an easy win over BTC's Malcolm Hume, ending a three-cornered battle that has seen some tremendous racing between Ryde, BTC and last season's champion Mike Gisborne of Southsea.
Poole Rowing Club continued their tremendous run of Novice wins when Kevin Hillman, Jarek Kalmierczak, Darrin Price, Ben Cowin (stroke ), Kelly Frampton (cox ), out-turned race leader Coalporters to hang on to a canvas lead and win the club's eighth novice race of the season.
The result gives them the lead in both the men's and ladies' championship, while Heather Mills of Westover teamed up with Sophie Westwood, Charlotte Batt, Emma Knight (stroke) and Laura Viner (cox) of Lymington to become the first composite novice-winning crew in the ladies' event.
BTC Senior Ladies look certain to join Coalporters in the South Coast Championships at Bideford on September 11 after another commanding performance which saw a changed Coalporters' crew slip to fourth place behind BTC B and Poole.
BTC's Men's Senior Four look a good bet to retain the coveted Bideford Bowl as they go from strength to strength, while veterans Ray Green, Steve Wardell, Colin Harrison, Colin Brockman (stroke) Sarah Wardell (cox) look set to join Southsea in the first ever South Coast veterans Championship with a win that left hopefuls Southsea gasping after the BTC four took them apart over the last 200 metrtes to win by 1 lengths, leaving Southsea looking for one more point to secure the title.
But Coalporter's Junior Ladies, though assured of a place on the starting line at Bideford, will have to find yet another gear if they want to go as champions and avoid an end of season row-off with Southsea, after a rapidly improving Christchurch beat them by two lengths.
