DIMITRI MASCARENHAS has recorded his fourth five-wicket haul of the season on a rain-affected day at the Rose Bowl.
All-rounder Mascarenhas's 5 for 64 took his tally in the county championship to 44 at 17.48 and helped bowl Glamorgan out for 342 as Hampshire established a first innings lead of 28.
Mascarenhas took three of his wickets on the second day, when Darren Thomas smashed an unbeaten 105 on the eve of his grandfather's funeral.
Thomas did not reappear yesterday. He left Southampton shortly after breakfast so he could make the 3pm cremation service in Llanelli. Without him, Glamorgan were not nearly as threatening.
The all-rounder was retired not out while the Glamorgan innings was on-going but, once the visitors lost their ninth wicket, they were officially all out and Thomas was retired out.
Glamorgan added 85 to their over night 257 for 4.
Mascarenhas had Jonathan Hughes caught behind and Michael Powell was trapped leg before in the Hampshire all-rounder's next over.
Hughes contributed three from 35 balls to a stand of 30 with Powell but, when he was out after edging a loose drive outside off stump, Glamorgan lost three more quick wickets.
After Powell had departed for 89, Billy Taylor took the deserved wickets of Adrian Dale, whose off stump was sent cartwheeling, and David Harrison, who chopped on to his own stumps, in the space of five balls.
A spirited last stand of 31 between Robert Croft and Michael Kasprowicz was brought to an end when Shaun Udal bowled the latter through the gate immediately after the Australian had clubbed Hampshire's off-spinner for six over long-on.
Shane Warne went wicketless in an innings for the first time this season, other than the second innings at Essex two months ago, when he was only able to bowl four overs because of his broken hand.
The only other occasion Warne has failed to take a wicket in a championship innings was at Derby at the end of the 2000 season.
In reply, Jimmy Adams and Michael Brown took Hampshire to 28 for 0, a lead of 55, before two torrential downpours ended play for the day.
