THE Anvil's new season looks set to be a scorcher - with music, dance and comedy to suit all ears, eyes and funnybones.
As well as appearances from big names such as Lenny Henry, Gene Pitney, Status Quo and Engelbert Humperdinck, there will be a chance to see some rock stars reunited in Dead Men Walking on Thursday, September 23, beginning at 7.45pm.
Dead Men Walking are Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols, Kirk Brandon of Spear of Destiny, Mike Peters of The Alarm, Bruce Watson of Big Country and Slim Jim Phantom of The Stray Cats - five of the most original and influential songwriters of the last 20 years.
All five have individually carved their names into the pages of rock 'n' roll history, a collective history that represents the soundtrack for a generation.
If you prefer a more tribal beat, make sure you book for the amazing Ladysmith Black Mambazo on November 9.
If you've never seen gumboot dancing before, don't miss this spectacular performance.
Radio 4 will proudly present the show I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue at The Anvil on Sunday, September 19.
This multi-award-winning antidote to panel game shows was booked too late to make the current autumn brochure, but is a definite diary note for all fans of regulars Humphrey Lyttelton, Barry Cryer, Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor.
First broadcast in 1972, this hugely-popular panel game regularly features high-calibre comedians such as Stephen Fry, Sandy Toksvig, Paul Merton and Jeremy Hardy, and makes its first visit to Basingstoke.
The Anvil's 10th anniversary International Concert Series begins with the Philharmonia Orchestra and a meeting of musical giants on Friday, September 24 - pianist Alfred Brendel and conductor Christoph von Dohnanyi.
Brendel brings a lifetime's experience to his performance, yet is still discovering new aspects of the music.
He is one of the indisputable authorities in musical life today, and one of the very few living pianists whose name alone guarantees a sell-out wherever he plays in the world.
And, after the Christmas panto Jack and the Beanstalk, there will be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see deaf percussionist Evelyn Glennie appear with Julian Lloyd Webber next year, when two of Britain's most charismatic musicians join forces in an unmissable concert on Sunday, January 16.
For music tribute fans, there's also the visit of the new sing-along-a show, Sing-a-long-a-Elvis, as well as Bjorn Again, Rumours of Fleetwood Mac and The Meat Loaf Story.
Tickets for all shows, and all other information, can be obtained from the box office on 01256 844244.
