HER life was taken by a cruel illness - but her memory lives on.

Bubbly Fareham girl Lisa Berry died in May after losing her battle with bone cancer.

A charity equestrian show and trophy competition is being held in her honour later this month.

It is a fitting way for friends and family to remember 12-year-old Lisa, who devoted her spare time to her love of horses.

It has been organised by Jodie Tisson, 23, from Wickham, who met Lisa at the Hambledon Hunt North Pony Club where they were both members.

All proceeds raised will go towards the ward at Southampton General Hospital where Lisa was treated.

Jodie said: "Lisa absolutely loved horses, this is a fitting event to hold in her memory. Lisa was bubbly, friendly and she really enjoyed life."

It was last September when Lisa first complained of a pain in her leg and after only six weeks into her first year at Henry Cort Community School, she began chemotherapy at the Piam Brown ward.

But just weeks before Christmas, Lisa's parents Andy and Lindsay, of Fareham Park Road, were told the cancer was terminal.

The couple have donated prizes and trophies for the charity event.

Lindsay said: "Lisa did everything for the pony club. We still have her pony Woody who she got about a year before she was diagnosed. Because her leg was hurting she couldn't ride him much after that.

"Ever since she was tiny she was into riding. She just loved animals and being outdoors.

"This event is a fitting way to carry on her memory, it's just the way I would like it to continue.

"Lisa would have enjoyed it, she would have been competing.

"Sadly, she was one of the fittest kids around but cancer is indiscriminate.

"The treatment was wonderful. From the diagnosis, things moved very quickly.

"The thought of going into a cancer ward gave me a vision of doom and gloom but the ward was a positive place to be."

The E-Quest summer show will take place on August 22 at Mayhill Stud in Swanmore Road, Droxford where hunter classes will compete for the Lisa Berry Memorial Challenge Trophy.
