IN a special ceremony held onboard the Cunard liner, Queen Mary 2, Jo Cox, Warsash Maritime College student, was presented with the 2004 Wakeford Prize in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the maritime industry.
The award, which took place while QM2 was alongside the Southampton's Eastern Docks, was presented by Maldwin Drummond, President of the Wakeford Maritime Lectures Trust.
Jo, aged 25, who studied as deck officer cadetship, received the Wakeford Prize and a cash gift of £500.
Since leaving the maritime college, Jo has become a Third Officer on British Antarctic Survey vessel.
Mr Drummond, president of the Wakeford Maritime Lectures Trust, said: "We are delighted to be able to present Jo with her wellearned prize."
