A MAJOR development that would create a recreational oasis for Fair Oak and Horton Heath villagers will be considered by borough councillors next month.
The Daily Echo revealed earlier in the year that the parish council was in line to be given 35 acres of land at White Tree Farm, in Botley Road.
If the plans, which hinge on the building of 45 homes, go ahead then it would open up a big chunk of land for walking, picnics, conservation and wildlife sites and allotments.
Parish council chiefs say that the land will be largely left untouched for the community to enjoy.
Parish clerk Cheryl Gosling says this particular parcel of land is very precious to the parish because it will form a green gap between Fair Oak and Horton Heath.
It has also panoramic views to Durley and the Isle of Wight.
Planning applications, which will decide the future of the scheme, will be considered on September 15 by Eastleigh Council's Bishopstoke, Fair Oak and Horton Heath Local Area Committee.
Parish council research shows there is a great demand for this informal type of recreation facility.
As well as providing recreational land, the White Tree Farm site will provide a new cemetery.
Cheryl said: "We are in desperate need of a cemetery because we are running out of space at our current site in Elland Close."
If all goes to plan the village authority hopes to enter into an agreement to take over the land at White Tree Farm in the next few months.
Regular meetings are being held to discuss the project.
