POLICE in Southampton have made one of the city's biggest cannabis seizures after swooping on a house in Bassett.

Officers discovered about 30kg of cannabis resin after raiding a property in Pointout Close.

The drugs were recovered along with 2kg of amphetamines and an undisclosed quantity of cocaine.

Police said the massive haul would have been worth at least £52,000 if sold on the streets.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: "The haul of cannabis is one of the biggest seizures made by police in Southampton for some time.

"A conservative estimate of the combined street value of the drugs is £52,000."

The drugs were found by officers from Hampshire police's pro-active unit while carrying out a search warrant at the property at 1pm on Thursday. Details of the operation were not revealed until today.

Police said three men had subsequently been arrested and charged with drug offences following investigations into the seizure.

Steven Trout, 42, of Devonshire Gardens, Bursledon, and Barry O'Connell, 46, of Nelson Road, Shirley, have been jointly charged with possession with intent to supply Class A, B and C drugs.

Craig Dunham, 23, of Colburn Close, Millbrook, has been charged with possession with intent to supply cannabis, a Class C drug.

Trout and O'Connell have been remanded in custody to appear before Southampton Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Dunham was released on bail and will also appear before magistrates on Thursday.
