GOAL machine Andy Forbes was yesterday upstaged by someone who is the complete opposite of him.
Forbes has struck over 350 goals in the last five years for Andover and Winchester and wasted no time getting off the mark for new club Eastleigh yesterday.
Forbes celebrated his first start at the Sparshatts Stadium by scoring in his side's 5-4 pre-season friendly defeat by Lawrie McMenemy's ex-Saints XI.
And the man who got the winner for Saints was .... full-back Franny Benali, who netted just once in a professional career spanning the best part of 17 years!
Legendary hardman Neil 'Razor' Ruddock was also on target for the former Saints along with Gordon Watson, Nicky Banger and Martin Thomas - the latter pair swapping teams for the day as they will be in the Eastleigh squad for next weekend's Ryman League curtain-raiser at Tonbridge.
Danny Smith, who like Forbes helped Winchester to the Wessex League and Cup double and the FA Vase last season, was also on target for Eastleigh on his first start while James Stokoe and Stuart Beck also netted.
Forbes and Smith had been handed brief sub appearances in the previous day's 3-1 friendly win at Conference South outfit Weymouth.
Striker Robbie Matthews responded to Forbes' arrival by scoring twice with 15-year-old sub Lewis Hunt grabbing the third against a full-strength Terras outfit.
Assistant manager David Hughes said: "We were a little bit pleasantly surprised by the result."
Eastleigh were without four former Saints - Hughes, Banger, Christer Warren (hip) and Ryan Ashford (shoulder) - at Weymouth.
Former Wimbledon and Bolton star Dean Holdsworth netted twice as Havant & Waterlooville cruised to a 6--2 friendly win at Bashley.
Dave Wakefield had thrust Bash into an early lead with a 25-yard shot but Havant equalised within a minute through David Town.
The Hawks took the lead on 20 minutes with a superb volley from Luke Byles and the visitors stretched their advantage just before half-time when Town, looking offside, scored.
Eighteen minutes from time Havant scored again when Holdsworth met a cross from sub Dean Blake to score with a full blooded scissors kick.
Holdsworth scored again shortly after with Bash reducing the arears through Adie Adams, returning on a month'a loan from Forest Green.
James Taylor completed the scoring for Havant late on.
