FITNESS fanatics at a Hampshire leisure centre can help a local cancer charity at the same time as having a workout.
Fleming Park Leisure Centre in Eastleigh has adopted Macmillan Cancer Relief's South Hampshire appeal as its charity of the year.
The adoption means money raised from various events at the Passfield Avenue centre will help a £1m campaign to fund a dedicated cancer information and support centre at Southampton General Hospital.
Once built, the state-of-the-art centre will provide support for cancer patients from across south Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and parts of Wiltshire, Dorset and the Channel Islands.
Friends and family members will be as welcome as patients at the new facility, which will aim to provide a relaxed and homely atmosphere.
Facilities on offer will include information and literature about cancer, Internet access, a range of high quality wigs, counselling and complementary therapies.
Appeal manager Connie McConachie said: "I was over the moon when Fleming Park Leisure Centre told me they wanted to adopt us as their
charity of the year."
The complex has great facilities plus they manage Fleming Park and the 18-hole golf course.
"People can go to Fleming Park to get fit, have a relaxing Pilates class or participate in the many fun-filled events the complex offers.
"Money raised from forthcoming events will be used to help local people living with cancer to help build a Macmillan cancer information and support centre."
