A PACKED crowd watched a thrilling finals day at the Winchester Tennis and Squash Club.

And quality came to the fore as the blue ribbon International Tennis Federation 18-and-under girls and boys events were both won by the number one seeds.

Alexandra Kulikova, from Russia, put a nervous start to the tournament behind her to produce her best tennis in the final, defeating un-seeded Katie Williams from Hertfordshire 6-4, 6-1.

Max Jones retained his boys' title against Ant Scragg in two closely-fought sets.

After a brief break, Jones returned to the centre court to meet number two seed Ben Harknett in the men's open final.

Tiredness seem to tell as he lost the second set but fine all-court play and an array of volleys turned the tide back in his favour as he won 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

Local player Hannah Crawford had an extremely successful under-12 event.

She defeated number three seed Samantha Conroy after a third set tie-breaker, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6, before losing a closely contested semi-final to top seed Taro Keens from Hampshire.
