ANDOVER'S Upper High Street was packed at the weekend as residents enjoyed live musical entertainment in a street party organised by the Art and Soul Caf.

The event was not only a chance to show residents the talent Andover has to offer but also to highlight the lack of venues.

Since the Art and Soul Caf opened in October 2002, it has become apparent the caf isn't big enough to hold all the cultural facilities and that more venues are needed.

Jayne Miell, the owner of Art and Soul Caf said: "It was a great success, a lot of people participated and a lot of people enjoyed the High Street being closed."

From 11am to 10pm on Saturday the street was packed with entertainers including musicians, artists and bands.

Jayne said: "The feeling on the day was good and very upbeat.

"We really could have gone on a lot longer." The brainchild behind this party was a group of people from the Art and Soul Caf called Take Five and the success of this event has encouraged them to organise a similar event. Jane said that funding or having a large building wasn't the issue, they just needed little areas within the town where people could get together and create a great feeling.
