Redlynch & Hale beat Andover II 187-8

The second team traveled to Redlynch and Hale last Saturday and came second best to a team who outplayed them on the day, writes Tim Keighley.

Batting first on a drying wicket was always going to be difficult, but at 70 for 1 everything was rosy. Poor shot selection by the middle order saw the score tumble to 100-6 and it was left to the skipper and Simon Mundy to repair the damage. The pair put on 30, and the tail wagged as John Walsh scored 28* and Mundy 27, as the side stuttered to 187 for 8.

Batting second was a different proposition, but Ian Langdown (3-29 from 10 overs) had the home side in trouble at 30 for 3. Indifferent line and length combined with some positive batting saw the home side to victory with five overs to spare for the loss of only five wickets.

Earlier on, Marc Kavanagh looked in good nick, as did Paul Funnell. The bowling lacked penetration, but no-one can be faulted for lack of effort. Matt Guilfoile bowled well in his second spell and John Walsh showed good line and length. Ollie Goss put in three good overs at the end.
