WE were all hoping it would be third time lucky at St Mary's for the Arsenal game when, at last, we would see a change in performance and result.

But the 2-0 result wasn't anywhere near third time lucky. If anything it was back to first base.

Not only was it the third loss at St Mary's but the players seemed to be confused with which of the three coaches they had to listen to - Stuart Gray, Mick Wadsworth or Dennis Rofe?

I have faith in Stuart Gray because he has the ability to collect points away from St Mary's, so no doubt it will come at home soon enough.

Saturday was more about the players. To me, nearly everyone showed no commitment or passion - in sharp contrast to the fans.

It is becoming evident that some of the players are feeling too settled and that, because they don't have any competition for places, they just are just going through the motions.

So it's time for action - we need new strikers, midfielders and defenders.

We have the money from selling Dean Richards, so let's get some new blood in the squad and start making the players compete for places in the final 16.

While on the subject of the squad, can anyone tell me where Dan Petrescu has gone?

I know he was injured and there was talk of him having a fall-out with the management, but surely that is no reason not to play him - maybe he is the inspiration we need up that right hand side?

West Ham had another thrashing at the weekend, so there's no reason why we should not collect all three points on Saturday.

Can there really be a six pointer this early on in the season?

And then it's Bolton away in the next round of the Worthington Cup. I can't decide whether this is a good thing or not?

Bolton will be looking for revenge after we beat them 1-0 earlier in the season but there's no reason why we can't have a repeat performance.

I suppose you can never really tell with cup football - just look at Grimsby beating Liverpool last week.
