RYA wins assurances from ABP over proposed Dibden Bay development on Southampton Water.
Following two years of intensive work, the RYA (Royal Yachting Association), representing the interests of clubs and individual members, has received a written assurance from Associated British Ports (ABP) that the RYA's principle concerns will be met.
These included: Cruising and racing activities on Southampton water. Cruising and racing will continue as at present and no additional restrictions will be placed on these activities following the development of the Dibden terminal.
Hydrographic and dredging In the event of the construction of the terminal leading to a reduction of depths by more than 30cm, ABP undertake to restore to established previous levels.
Wash Assurance that effective action will be taken by the Harbour Master regarding the issue of excessive or damaging wash from craft.
Mooring Issues While not directly the concern of ABP's Dibden development, mooring holders' concerns will be taken into consideration directly by the Harbour Master.
North Channel No additional restrictions on recreational craft in this area will result from the development or increases in traffic.
Commenting on the RYA's decision to withdraw its objections on recreational boating grounds, the Association's CEO Rod Carr said, 'Our legal team have done an excellent job in gaining assurances on a number of important issues.
'Having received a written assurance from ABP, it does not make sense to continue our objection on purely recreational boating grounds, with regard to Southampton water and the North Channel.
Ultimately, we all need to co-exist on this busy stretch of water.
