HAMPSHIRE tots had a tasty time trying to come up with a suitable name for a new type of local sausage made especially with youngsters' taste buds in mind.

Pupils from Freegrounds Infant School in Hedge End came up with some weird and wonderful suggestions for local prize-winning sausage-maker Billy Owton after they tasted his delicious new bangers for children at a Sports Relief school barbecue.

Mr Owton, who has a child at the school in Hobb Lane, decided to try out his new product on the children in the ultimate taste test and to get a fitting name into the bargain.

Suggestions ranged from Silly Billys to Sizzle and even slightly off the wall marketing names such as simply Harry or Sally - but in the end there was only one winner from 100 entries that really cut the mustard.

Little Mia Hammerton, seven, summed up the new lower fat, lower salt, milder flavoured sausage as the Children's Choice.

It was a firm favourite with Mr Owton: "I'm really pleased with it. I think Children's Choice says it all. We had a chuckle reading them all and it was great that so many children took part."

Mia was presented with an art materials set and colouring book by Mr Owton.
