BASINGSTOKE darts star Colin Monk picked up the £250 winner's cheque in the Kevin Vickery Singles Cup competition at the Academy Snooker Centre last week.

The England international beat Farnborough's Eddie Simmonds in the final by four legs to one.

To reach the final, Monk saw off fellow Basingstoke player Paul Hogan 3-0, while yet another Basingstoke player, Rick Cull, was beaten 3-1 in the other semi-final.

The quarter-finals saw Monk beat London's Paul Anthony 3-0 while Hogan won by the same scoreline over Steve Greenough from Alton.

Cull made it into the last four with a 3-1 victory over Kenny Winter of Farnborough, while Simmonds made the semi-final by beating Basingstoke's Graham Hardy 3-0.

In the first round, winner Monk showed his intentions with an 11-dart leg check-out with scores of 140, 180, 170 and 11 with two darts.

Without a local representative, the women's singles final saw Debbie Webb from Farnborough beat Portsmouth's Jane Monaghan 3-1 to claim the £50 prize.

Organiser John Bartlett said: "The event was a great success and it will be run again next year.

"I would like to thank sponsors Academy Snooker Centre, Kevin Vickery Fitted Kitchens and Bathrooms and Hants Auto Weld.
