JAMES BEATTIE continues to be the subject of summer transfer speculation - but Saints chairman Rupert Lowe has had enough and declared war on interested clubs.

Reports linking Beattie to Newcastle have died down since the Magpies swooped to land Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert but now both Spurs and Charlton are said to be weighing up bids in the region of £6m.

An initial enquiry from Valley boss Alan Curbishley was made but any offer has been put on hold.

Charlton wanted to state their intentions of becoming the biggest club south of the River Thames but Lowe blasted: "We don't want to sell and we're a bigger club than Charlton, so it would not make any sense.

"I think Beattie's agent has been busy but James is a Saints player and we want it to stay that way.

"He has done well for us and and we've done well for him."

Elsewhere, Egyptian striker Mido is said to be keen to move to Manchester City - though there were no quotes from the player or his agent, Christophe Henrotay, to support that.

Henrotay told the Daily Echo on Saturday that his client remains keen to speak to Saints boss Paul Sturrock with a view to a season-long loan from Marseille followed by a permanent deal.

Saints midfielder Rory Delap has been linked with a move to newly-promoted West Bromwich Albion.

The Sunday Mirror said the EIRE international, who remains the club's record signing at £4m from Derby in 2001, was "the odd man out" in a top-heavy Saints midfield - but that contrasts with the fact that Sturrock has started with Delap in both of Saints' friendlies in Sweden so far!

Left-back Graeme LeSaux has again been linked with a move to Millwall, bossed by his ex-Chelsea colleague Dennis Wise.

And there have also been reports that Jo Tessem, who has been told he can leave, is wanted by Nottingham Forest.
