Sir.-I feel I must reply to the article in a recent Tadley Gazette, headed "Town council objects to childcare facility".

My parents have lived in Droxford Crescent for 15 years and plan to remain there well in to their retirement, just like many of the residents in Droxford Crescent.

I am 100 per cent behind the objections because Droxford Crescent is a small, quiet close which has five retired/semi-retired residents living close by the childcare facility.

These residents have lived there for many years and it has always been a quiet neighbourhood.

Mr and Mrs Sherwing say the noise will be no more than is generated by a normal family, but nine to 18 children is not a normal family.

I do not object to childcare facilities, as I have a son who attends Bo-Peep's Day Nursery in Church Road. This is not far from Droxford Crescent and is a purposely-converted barn with a car park, which is offset from houses, so residents are not obstructed by vehicles and there is minimal disturbance to houses.

Lately, there has been an increase in traffic along Droxford Crescent and cars obstructing driveways.

Although the Sherwings say cars will only drop off and collect children for five minutes at the most, it still affects the residents who may have to wait five minutes to enter or leave their own home.

I do hope Mr and Mrs Sherwing read this letter and understand that although what they propose to do is something that, in their eyes, is needed and is a business opportunity, we as residents will not get any reward from hearing other people's children 24/7.

We do not want the noise and traffic on our doorstep.

-Helen Jerome, Droxford Crescent, Tadley.
