FETE: The Beddington Centre is the venue for the Old Basing Royal British Legion Women's Section summer fete.

I am hoping for good weather, but, as a safe-guard, if it is wet, the fun day will take place in the Legion Hall.

There will be lots of things happening, including cake stalls, bric-a-brac and a tombola.

It starts at 2pm and, believe me, you won't want to leave until 4.30pm.

JAZZ: It looks as though all the tickets are sold, so it won't be worth turning up on the night without a ticket, hoping to get in.

The functions being arranged by the Friends of St Mary's are a virtual sell-out even before they have been advertised.

Between now and November 13 there are four functions being arranged.

If you want to join in, send a subscription of £15 for a family membership to the Church Management Committee or to Max Deadman,at 1 Burton Gardens, Old Basing, RG24 7AF.

ALLOTMENT and Garden Society: Wind of change is happening at the society.

The seed catalogues are now being delivered to your door.

The copies will be available at the trading hut in Rileys Lane. They won't be in just yet, but you can speak to Sally Friday, on 323602, about availability.

CHINESE takeaway: There's lots of work going on in the new Belle Vue Parade shop. The counter is in, the air extraction unit is up and running, the menus are being printed, and all will happen about the middle of August.

CONCERN: Lovely Eady Beck called me earlier in the week.

She is an octogenarian who is passionate about her village. She has many concerns about Clearwell, the state of the river at Pyotts Hill, and the general situation about the conservation of all that is precious to her.

I am of the same mind, so I raised the question of what happened to the proceeds of the sale of The Grange, our barn, which is cordoned off because the tiles are falling off.
