Eastleigh College is continuing its award-winning streak.

It has been presented with an award for its outstanding contribution to the school and college Links programme.

The programme, which began five years ago, enables Year 10 and 11 pupils to come into college for one day a week to study for an NVQ qualification.

The courses available are all practical and include subjects such as construction, engineering, photography, sport, motor vehicle, and hair and beauty.

It gives pupils the opportunity to broaden their education and to progress at a higher level.

In a ceremony at St Mary's Stadium, the Southampton and South West Education Business Partnership award was presented to Eastleigh College's programme co-ordinator, Martin Nutbeam.

He said: "This is a wonderful award to receive as it demonstrates our commitment to social and community services to our local schools and the quality of teaching which is offered at Eastleigh College."

When the Links scheme was launched five years ago 70 pupils took part and now about 300 are studying at the college.
