SET in the Forest of Arden, and played out on Kelso Lawn, this absorbing comedy has plenty of songs, dance and, in this production, excellent musicianship.
Following the Duke's banishment to the Forest of Arden, Rosalind is also banished and is accompanied by her loyal cousin Celia. Disguised as a boy, the impish Rosalind contrives through whimsical means to secure happy endings for several romantic entanglements, including her own with Orlando.
An enthusiastic young cast blended together under Sarah Hawkins' imaginative direction thus creating an outstanding outdoor production.
They made the most of the natural exits and entrances offered by the lawn's surroundings, kept the set simple and the audience was soon totally engrossed. Stylish a capella singing enhanced the production which had many truly outstanding performances including the camp Jacques (James Doodson), the comic exuberance of Touchstone (Will Edelsten) and a remarkably assured Rosalind (Clare Brenton). It was indeed Shakespeare as we like it!
