Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Performing Arts Company, The Point, Eastleigh

It speaks volumes for the performers and musicians that they were undaunted by the 30-minute delay at the start because of a stage lighting failure.

The story is of how six brothers abduct six townsgirls and take them to their ranch for the winter. The oldest brother, Adam, and his wife, Milly, have different ways of dealing with the situation, but all ends happily.

Known for its dancing as much as the music, choreographer Marilyn Masters is to be congratulated on getting the cast to perform so well in the set pieces.

The orchestral accompaniment was sometimes a tad loud for the lower volume songs, but otherwise gave good support.

The leads, Kelly O'Donnell (Milly) and David Smith (Adam), were in fine voice as was David Harris (Gideon) who featured in several numbers.

The brothers bear the brunt of the show and gained in confidence as it progressed.
