BEN Smith was in hat-trick heaven after achieving three wins and three personal bests in the National Young Athletes' match at Portsmouth.

Competing for Eastleigh & District Junior AC's under-17 men, Smith started the day with a six-metre long jump, then clocked 11.4 seconds in the 100m - both performances taking him into the top-20 in the league rankings.

Smith then produced an impressive 55.4 400m run before teaming up with Darren Sepala, Lalo Harris and Dan Morant to win the 4x100m relay.

On a hot day for Eastleigh's sprinters, Sepala won the B 100m (11.8) and was second in the A 200m (24.9 pb). Harris was the B 200m runner-up.

In the under-13 boys' age-group, Elliot Chudleigh led the A 100m (13.2 pb) and the A 200m 28.1, Calum Bressington topped the B 100m (13.6 pb) and A long jump (4.32), while Adam Wilkinson won the B long jump (4.00). Alex Millen joined those three boys for 4x100m relay success.

For the under-15 boys there were second places and personal bests for club debutant Tom Gilham (B 80m hurdles), Anthony Padilla (B 400m) and Tom Orton (B long jump, 4.24) Peter Hoe was javelin runner-up (32.26).

Under-13 girls' sprinter Melody Young continued to impress with another two personal bests. She reduced her 75m time by 0.5 of a second to 11.5, coming second, and then clipped 0.3s off her 150m time, finishing third in 21.8.

Second places went to Kelly Banks (under-17 B discus) and Natasha Smith (under-15 B shot, 5.58 pb).
