HUNDREDS turned out in Victorian costume at the weekend for Overton's two-day sheepfair.

The fair was opened at 10am on Saturday with a flock of sheep running through the village.

There were more than 50 stalls of different types for visitors to enjoy, as well as street entertainers, pony rides, Punch and Judy shows, a traditional funfair, a Victorian funfair and a flower festival.

On the Sunday a carnival paraded through the village with more than 15 classic cars and an outdoor service.

This is the second time Overton has held a sheepfair and according to David Backers, a sheepfair committee member, this one attracted a lot more people.

David said: "I met people from as far as Birmingham, Hertfordshire and the other side of Bournemouth."

Hundreds of people made the effort to dress up, from lords and ladies to shepherds in smocks.

Committee members organised the event for the people of Overton.

David said: "It was not to make a lot of money but to give villagers a good time and everyone had a whacking good time!"

David added that many thanks go to Portals which sponsored the event.
