HUNDREDS of pensioners at a popular Totton club hit by a massive rent rise have been given a helping hand.
Members of the Totton and District Three Score Club have received £800 from Hampshire County Council to fund improvements to fire doors.
Totton county councillor Edith Randall presented the pensioners with a fun-sized cheque.
She said: "The Three Score Club provides a great deal for entertainment and companionship for older people in the Totton area."
The cash injection is good news for members, who have seen the annual ground rent rise from £5 to more than £1,000 in the past 12 years.
Totton and Eling Town Council has rejected a plea to reduce the rent, but has agreed to meet members to discuss the club's finances.
