THUXTON Circuit is renowned throughout the country as the fastest motor racing circuit in the UK but on Sunday it was given over to the pounding of human feet and whirring of wheelchair spokes as horsepower made way for muscle power.

In the event it was a female runner who set the pace. Amy Stiles, a 29-year-old woman from Bristol Athletics Club came within 10 seconds of overhauling the fastest male runner, 17-year-old Richard Taylor of Amersham and Wycombe AC who completed the 10 kilometres in 34mins 32seconds.

Amy wins a VIP day out for two at Thruxton courtesy of the British Automobile Racing Club for smashing the course record for a woman runner.

The Thruxton 10k race has been gaining in popularity since its running on the circuit in 1999 as more and more people appreciate the smooth surface of the circuit as an ideal running venue.
