A Romsey man was left badly shaken after a road-rage attack in a town suburb.

His car was also extensively damaged when it was rammed by an aggressive male driver at Woodley on Tuesday afternoon last week. Police have now circulated details of the offender's car to forces nationwide.

The terrified victim - who has requested to be known only as Mr Marshall - was driving along School Lane when he took action to avoid a head-on collision with a Nissan Primera travelling towards him on the wrong side of the road.

"I beeped him but he continued to head towards me, narrowly avoiding my car, so I beeped him again. I then looked in my mirror and saw that he had turned around and was following me," said Mr Marshall.

In a bid to escape, Mr Marshall drove off towards Cupernham via Braishfield Road and Woodley Lane, but the angry Nissan driver tailed him and then overtook him and stopped suddenly in front of him.

"Feeling a confrontation I reversed into Kinver Close in an attempt to turn back the way I had come and then escape," said Mr Marshall.

Seconds later, the Nissan reversed and rammed Mr Marshall's vehicle - causing extensive damage to its front - then sped off at high speed. "You don't expect this to happen in Romsey. It was hair raising," said Mr Marshall, who drove on to Romsey police station to report the incident.

Luckily for him there was a witness and Mr Marshall managed to get the Nissan's registration number. But there was a further shock for Mr Marshall.

"I was informed that the car is not owned by the registered keeper, therefore the owner is virtually untraceable, so I will have to foot the excess bill for insurance," said Mr Marshall, who is anxious to hear from anyone who has seen the car that hit his.

PC Dick Morse, who is in charge of the investigation, said: "This is serious but it could have been even worse. We haven't got a current keeper of the vehicle. It hasn't been reported stolen. We have now registered details of the vehicle on the police computer and details have been circulated to police across the country.

"We need to hear from anyone who knows who the keeper is.."

The vehicle was a white Nissan Primera and had the registration number M863 COR.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Morse on 08450454545 or Mr Marshall on 023 8072 5908.
