Shane Warne has set Hampshire a record target of 11 championship wins - and intends to start the second half of the season with more happy memories of Trent Bridge.

Hampshire skipper Warne won the man of the match award after helping Australia retain the Ashes the last time he played at the home of Nottinghamshire in 2001.

And he is targeting a record-breaking run in as Hampshire prepare for the last eight games of the season - starting at Trent Bridge tomorrow.

Warne will be available for the rest of the season, barring injury, and has set Hampshire a target of "at least" SIX more wins.

That would see the county finish with more than any other second division side since the championship was split into two divisions four years ago.

Last year Worcestershire and Northants were both promoted with ten wins, as were Essex in 2002.

Sussex managed nine in the first year of two-tier championship cricket but no side has yet managed 11.

Warne intends to make it six out of nine against top-of-the-table Nottinghamshire, who humbled Hampshire by an innings and 44 runs, with victory inside two days at the Rose Bowl in early June.

He said: "We've still got eight championship games to go and we believe we can win at least six of those.

"We got totally outplayed in all facets of the game against Notts at the Rose Bowl, where the wicket was probably the worst we've played on this season.

"But now we've got them at their place, and they're the leaders so this is a double pointer.

"Basically if we win this game we'll probably get somewhere near them and we've got a game in hand."

Warne showered England fans with champagne from the visitors' balcony the last time he played at Trent Bridge, after taking a second innings haul of 6 for 33 to help the Aussies complete a seven-wicket win inside three days and go 3-0 up in the 2001 Ashes series

He will be making his second trip to Trent Bridge with Hampshire, having lost a National League match by eight wickets in 2000. But he his preparing for his first county championship match in Nottingham, where he will be looking to add to the 21 first class wickets he has taken at 18.14 in three Ashes Tests.

Warne said: "Trent Bridge has been a happy hunting ground for me with the ball, I enjoy bowling there but this will be a good test for us."

Jimmy Adams, yet to play in the championship this season, has been recalled to the Hampshire squad as one of three batsmen added to the side that won the floodlit totesport National League thriller against Kent at Canterbury.

Zimbabwean Greg Lamb has been left out after playing three totesport National League games and six Twenty20 matches, with left-handed opener Adams back in favour after scoring a hundred for the second XI against Essex at Coggeshall on Tuesday.

There are also recalls for seamer James Bruce, who is yet to play a championship game this season, all-rounder Lawrie Prittipaul and batsmen Will Kendall.

Notts, meanwhile, will be aiming to stretch their winning championship run to SIX matches. They will also be looking for their fifth straight championship win against Hampshire.

Bowler Greg Smith (knee) is a minor doubt but is in a squad of 12.
