It was one of motorcycle road-racing history's grim ironies that Brian Lee should die on the same date as his son Gavin.
Brian lost a long, brave fight against prostate cancer - five years to the day after Gavin was killed in an Isle of Man road race.
North Baddesley-based Brian was very much Gavin's mentor and inspiration.
Aboard Southampton dealer Syd Lawton's Aermacchis, he won many mainland events and took the newcomers award in the Isle of Man TT.
Even when he retired from road racing, Brian retained a burning enthusiasm for motorcycling and still cut a dash on his R1 Yamaha.
When Gavin became a star in his own right, winning British Championship races and taking two podium finishes at the TT, Brian was his biggest fan. Most of all they were the best of friends and he never got over Gavin's death.
Brian leaves three children, Karen, Vicky and Francis.
